Jewellery Video Production Kuwait: Costs & Lighting

Jewellery Video Production Kuwait: Costs & Lighting

Gold has been traded in Kuwait longer than most industries here have existed, and the Gold Souq inside Souq Mubarakiya still moves serious volume on a Thursday evening. What has changed is where the first look happens — on a phone, weeks before anyone walks into the shop. That is what makes jewellery video production in Kuwait its own discipline rather than ordinary product work: you are filming a mirror-finished object that has to read as expensive on a six-inch screen. Here is what it costs in KWD, why gold and diamonds fight the camera, and how to schedule a shoot around the Kuwaiti calendar.

How much does jewellery video production cost in Kuwait?

For a Kuwait-based jewellery brand, budget 200 to 4,000 KWD per project. The spread is wide because the deciding factor is whether a human being appears on screen, and how many finished assets you need at the end.

  • 200–400 KWD — single-collection macro day. One collection on a table-top set, macro coverage plus turntable and slider moves, delivered as 8–12 vertical clips and matching stills.
  • 500–1,000 KWD — collection film with a hand or neck model. Half a day, product on skin, a 45–60 second brand film and 10–15 cut-downs from the same footage.
  • 1,500–4,000 KWD — full campaign. Cast talent, styling, hair and makeup, a location beyond the studio, two shoot days, and a grade that treats metal and skin separately.
  • 60–150 KWD per day — hand models. Specialist hands price above general talent here and are worth it; badly manicured hands cost more in retouching than the model would have.
  • 350–800 KWD per month — content retainer. One shoot day a month producing 12–20 finished assets, almost always cheaper per asset than three separate bookings a year. Our breakdown of a video production retainer in Kuwait versus one-off shoots runs the maths.

Allow two to three weeks from approved brief to final files, of which five to eight working days are edit, grade and retouch — macro work is slower in post than anything else we shoot, because every speck of dust is a manual clean-up.

Why gold and diamonds are so hard to light

Because you are not lighting the object — you are lighting what it reflects. Polished gold behaves like a curved mirror: point a light at it and you get a hot white blob and a dead surface. The craft is shaping large soft sources and black negative fill so the metal picks up a controlled gradient, bright along one edge and falling into shadow across the form. That gradient is what the eye reads as weight. Diamonds want the opposite — fire comes from small, hard, distant sources that would ruin a gold band. On a mixed piece you run both and separate them in the grade.

  • Get 21k and 22k yellow right. Kuwaiti buyers know exactly what 21k gold looks like in daylight. If the grade pushes it green or orange, the piece reads as plated. We shoot a colour chart on every setup.
  • Macro glass, stopped down. A 100mm macro around f/8 to f/11 on a motorised slider, so the move is repeatable and the focus plane is predictable.
  • Shoot 60–120fps for sparkle. Slowed slightly in post, light travelling across a stone is the most watchable thing in the edit.
  • Gloves, cloth and blower, every take. A fingerprint invisible on set is a twenty-minute retouch on a 4K frame.
  • Shoot stills in the same session. The lighting is already paid for, and jewellery e-commerce sells on the grid as hard as it does on video — our guide to product photography in Kuwait, with costs and process covers that half of the day.
If your jewellery footage looks flat, the problem is almost never the camera you hired. It is that nothing interesting was placed in front of the metal for it to reflect.

Where do jewellery brands in Kuwait actually shoot?

Overwhelmingly in a controlled studio, not in the shop. Retail lighting is built to sell to a walk-in customer, not to a sensor: mixed colour temperatures, ceiling spots that blow out polished metal, and glass cabinets that reflect the crew. Boutique footage has its place, but it is b-roll, not the hero. Where location work earns its keep here, it is usually heritage texture at Souq Mubarakiya, boutique interiors at The Avenues or 360 Mall, or the Kuwait Towers behind a National Day campaign. Each carries its own paperwork.

Permissions and security, in the order they bite

  • Your own studio or premises: no permit needed beyond the landlord's goodwill.
  • Malls and private venues: The Avenues and 360 Mall both require prior written approval and usually proof of insurance, with lead times in weeks.
  • Public locations, including Souq Mubarakiya: commercial filming needs a Ministry of Information permit plus Kuwait Municipality permission for the site. Our guide to filming permits in Kuwait and what brands need sets out the process.
  • Stock handling: agree a written inventory in and out, keep a brand representative with the pieces all day, and confirm whose insurance covers the tray on our table.

Timing and language: the Kuwaiti jewellery calendar

Demand here is seasonal and unusually predictable, so plan by counting backwards. Ramadan and Eid drive the heaviest gifting spend of the year. Wedding season and the Hala Febrayer and National Day period around 25–26 February pull retail campaigns into one crowded fortnight. Q4 brings end-of-year gifting and new-collection launches. Shoot six to eight weeks ahead of each, not two.

This category also has an advantage almost no other has in Kuwait: the May-to-September heat that shuts down outdoor production does not touch a table-top set. Summer is the right time to build the library that carries you through campaign season — our piece on turning one video shoot into a month of content transfers directly to a collection shoot.

Two languages, one buyer

Kuwaiti buyers search in both Arabic and English, often in the same evening — "gold necklace Kuwait" on a laptop, then تصوير المجوهرات (jewellery photography) or إنتاج فيديو (video production) on a phone. So caption everything in both languages; this content is watched muted, and an Arabic caption costs nothing at the edit stage. And do not translate your campaign line — write it twice, natively. A luxury line run through a translator sounds exactly like that.

Jewellery video production in Kuwait: what clients ask us

How much does a jewellery video cost in Kuwait?

A focused macro day starts around 200 KWD and covers one collection, delivered as eight to twelve vertical clips plus stills. Adding a hand model and styling moves you toward 1,000 KWD, and a full campaign with cast talent and a location sits between 1,500 and 4,000 KWD depending on days and deliverables.

Do we need a permit to film jewellery in Kuwait?

Not in a studio or inside your own premises. Filming in a mall boutique needs written approval from the mall, usually with proof of insurance and several weeks of notice. Public locations such as Souq Mubarakiya require a Ministry of Information permit for the production and Kuwait Municipality permission for the site.

Should we shoot in our boutique or in a studio?

Studio for the hero product work, boutique for atmosphere. Retail lighting mixes colour temperatures and blows out polished metal, and glass cabinets reflect the crew. The efficient answer is a studio day for the collection, then two hours in-store afterwards for b-roll and staff footage.

How many videos does a Kuwait jewellery brand need each month?

Eight to twelve finished assets a month keeps organic feeds alive and gives paid media enough variants to test. That is one shoot day, not eight — shot with variation planned in advance. Brands in adjacent luxury categories can borrow the cadence from our guide to fashion videography for Kuwait luxury brands.

Where to start

If you have a collection landing this season: fix the launch date, count back eight weeks, book one controlled studio day for macro and product, and add a second day only if the campaign needs a face. That gets a Kuwaiti jewellery brand a usable content library for well under 1,000 KWD, stills included — and the same assets travel into Saudi, the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain if you expand. When you are ready, contact the studio and we will map the shoot to the season you are selling into.
